India-built apps featured at Apple’s latest global product launch event
NEW DELHI: Several applications developed in India were showcased during Apple’s latest product launch event in Cupertino, highlighting the growing presence of Indian technology products in the global consumer ecosystem.
Among nearly 60 applications demonstrated by the company in connection with its new devices, Apple Intelligence and the revamped Siri, around four Indian names appeared across categories such as news, music and lifestyle.
The Indian applications featured included Gaana, District by Zomato, the NDTV News app, and Glance, an India-born AI-led commerce platform.
The NDTV News app was notably used by Apple during the live demonstration of its redesigned AI-powered Siri. It was the only news platform featured in the showcase, highlighting the app’s role in demonstrating real-world AI interactions for users seeking news and information.
Glance’s inclusion stood out because the platform is a relatively recent entrant, having been launched around one-and-a-half years ago. Built largely out of India with a global market focus, it already maintains a significant presence in the United States and is expanding into markets such as Japan.
Its appearance alongside established global platforms including WhatsApp, Snapchat and LINE underscores the increasing visibility of India-developed technology within the international AI and consumer app landscape.
Alignment with Apple Intelligence
Apple’s showcase emphasised the company’s shift towards AI-powered interactions. The updated Siri and Apple Intelligence are designed to understand user context and enable actions across applications.
The company is integrating its Foundation Models directly on devices to deliver faster and more private AI experiences.
This approach is expected to gradually move user interactions beyond traditional app-by-app navigation towards AI-assisted discovery, intent recognition and seamless action.
For Glance, the development aligns with its core model of inspiration-driven product discovery and personalised shopping rather than conventional search-based commerce.
The platform has introduced an AI Personal Shopper experience for Apple devices that is integrated with Apple Intelligence, positioning it as an India-built technology offering aimed at a global audience.
The presence of Indian applications at a major Apple event reflects the maturing capabilities of the country’s software and AI ecosystem.
As Apple continues to roll out software updates that expand the reach of its on-device AI features, developers of India-built applications are expected to find new opportunities to create experiences that work more closely across devices and services.
The development also points to a wider trend in which technology platforms originating in India are increasingly designed from the outset for international markets while leveraging the country’s engineering talent and product innovation strengths.
