India’s First Virtual Zoo Opens in Indore
NEW DELHI: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday inaugurated India’s first 14D Virtual Zoo and Digital Jungle Safari at the Kamala Nehru Prani Sangrahalaya (Indore Zoo).
The 8,000-square-foot facility, developed at a cost of ₹4.5 crore under a public-private partnership model, opened to the public from Monday.
Immersive Attractions and Technology
The facility houses three main attractions: a 14D cinema theatre, a digital jungle safari and an immersive 3D dome theatre.
The 14D theatre is equipped with a waterproof screen imported from South Korea and integrates 14 sensory effects. These include synchronised moving seats, water sprays, wind blasts, fog, bubbles, vibrations and other environmental effects that create a realistic jungle experience while visitors remain seated.
The venue also features a gorilla-shaped entrance gate, neon-lit 3D jungle pathways, a glow garden with fibre-optic lighting, a roar-simulating maze and a mirror bridge that presents a Hanuman hologram.
The virtual zoo operates from Tuesday to Sunday between 10 am and 6 pm. It hosts 16 shows daily, with each show lasting 20 minutes. A single ticket priced at ₹70 provides access to all three attractions.
Purpose of the Initiative
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said the project, executed by the Indore Municipal Corporation, aims to advance environmental conservation education, reduce children’s dependence on mobile screens and offer accessible wildlife learning through digital technology. The facility is also expected to increase footfall at the existing zoo.
The virtual zoo allows visitors to experience wildlife and forest environments in an immersive digital format without physical interaction with animals, combining entertainment with educational value.
With this addition, Indore has positioned itself as a pioneer in integrating advanced sensory technology with traditional zoological spaces in India.
