BRIEF: Dehradun will soon have Uttarakhand’s first Pink Park, a dedicated women-only public space designed for safety and recreation. NEW DELHI: Dehradun is preparing to launch a distinctive public facility aimed at providing women with a dedicated, secure environment for leisure and social activities.

The proposed Pink Park will be the first of its kind in Uttarakhand, designed exclusively for women and children up to 10 years of age, with an emphasis on safety, comfort, and women-centric amenities.

Project Details and Planned Facilities

The Dehradun Municipal Corporation has begun the process of identifying a suitable site for the park. Once the location is finalised, development work will commence on a space that incorporates several thoughtful features.

Plans include well-maintained walking tracks, dedicated play areas for children, and an open gym for fitness activities.

Additional highlights will feature a Pink Library and reading corner for quiet relaxation, along with a gaming zone offering facilities such as table tennis and carrom.

The park will also include clean public toilets and landscaped areas to enhance the overall visitor experience.

The entire infrastructure is expected to follow a cohesive pink-themed design, creating a visually distinctive and welcoming atmosphere.

A notable aspect of the project is its staffing model. The park will be operated and maintained by an all-women team, including security guards and gardeners, to ensure a greater sense of safety and comfort for all visitors.

Emphasis on Safety and Inclusivity

Safety has been placed at the core of the Pink Park’s design. Enhanced security measures, including adequate lighting and appropriate surveillance, are expected to be integral to the project.

The initiative addresses long-standing concerns about women’s access to public recreational spaces and aims to create an environment where they can exercise, socialise, read, or simply spend time outdoors without hesitation.

The park is intended to serve as an inclusive space that supports women across different age groups while also accommodating young children, fostering opportunities for recreation and community interaction in a protected setting.

The project reflect a growing focus on gender-sensitive urban planning, recognising the need for dedicated public spaces that prioritise women’s safety and encourage greater participation in outdoor activities.

Once operational, the Pink Park is likely to become a valuable community asset in Dehradun, offering a reliable space for relaxation, physical activity, and social engagement.

It is also expected to serve as a model for future women-friendly initiatives across Uttarakhand and potentially inspire similar projects in other cities.

The Dehradun Municipal Corporation is currently in the site selection phase. Further details regarding timelines, exact location, and additional features are anticipated as the project progresses.

This development is being welcomed as a practical step toward making urban public spaces more inclusive and secure for women.
