Amazon CEO Andy Jassy meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the company announces an additional $13 billion investment in India by 2030.

NEW DELHI: Amazon has announced an additional $13 billion investment in India by 2030, taking its planned investment in the country between 2026 and 2030 to $48 billion, after Amazon President and CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday.

The additional $13 billion investment will primarily be used to expand Amazon Web Services (AWS) AI and cloud infrastructure in Mumbai and Hyderabad. It builds on the $35 billion investment commitment announced in 2025.

AWS expansion

According to Amazon, the new investment will:

• Expand AWS AI and cloud infrastructure in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
• Increase data centre capacity.
• Provide advanced AI services and cloud technologies for startups, enterprises and government organisations.
• Expand access to developer tools and cloud computing resources.

Amazon said its cumulative investments in India between 2010 and 2030 are expected to exceed $88 billion.

Logistics and e-commerce expansion

Separately, Amazon said it will continue expanding its e-commerce and logistics network across India by:

• Opening more than 20 fulfilment centres this year.
• Adding over 100 last-mile delivery stations.
• Supporting 3.8 million jobs by 2030.
• Enabling $80 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports.
• Helping 15 million small businesses adopt AI technologies.
• Providing AI education to 4 million government school students.

India emerges as a key AI investment destination

The announcement comes amid intensifying competition among global technology companies to expand AI and cloud infrastructure in India, which Reuters described as an emerging strategic hub for cloud, artificial intelligence and deep-tech growth.

India has become a key market for global technology firms due to its rapidly growing cloud computing market, rising enterprise adoption of AI and expanding digital infrastructure, prompting companies such as Amazon, Microsoft and Google to increase long-term investments, according to Reuters.

Wave of global investments

According to Reuters, Amazon’s latest commitment follows similar multi-billion dollar investment announcements by other global technology companies.

• Microsoft has committed $17.5 billion to expand AI and cloud infrastructure in India.
• Google has announced a $15 billion investment over five years to build AI data centres and expand cloud capacity.

Beyond the technology sector, companies including AirTrunk, Saint-Gobain and ABB have also announced major investments in India this year, highlighting growing foreign investor confidence in the country’s digital infrastructure, manufacturing and industrial sectors.

Amazon’s latest commitment adds to a broader wave of global investments as India strengthens its position as a major destination for AI, cloud computing and digital infrastructure.
