NEW DELHI: What began on May 16, 2026, as a satirical online meme page mocking comments made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has rapidly transformed into a structured political youth movement. The “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP) is gearing up for its first massive physical mobilization at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar this Saturday, June 6.
The movement, which commands over 22 million followers on Instagram, held its maiden press conference at the Constitution Club of India on Wednesday. The group’s leadership announced the formalization of its media team, a roster of high-profile civilian endorsements, and an escalation of its demands targeting the Union Education Ministry over recent examination failures.
Shift from Satire to Structure: Three Spokespersons Appointed
During its debut press interaction on June 3, the CJP officially transitioned away from a decentralized internet phenomenon by appointing three prominent public figures to handle its communications. The newly designated spokespersons include investigative journalist Saurav Das, political researcher and filmmaker Vijeta Dahiya, and Ashutosh Ranka, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and the London School of Economics.
The venue for the press meet at the Constitution Club was secured via a recommendation letter from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, chief spokesperson Saurav Das stated:
“We have given an open call. Anybody can join us without a party banner. We are ready to have a dialogue with everybody, be it those in power or the Opposition. We are demanding accountability in the system”.
The spokespersons also fiercely defended the movement’s political autonomy. Responding to queries regarding past political ties, particularly founder Abhijeet Dipke’s previous stint with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) social media wing, Ashutosh Ranka stated, “Our past affiliations are not important. This fight is bigger than that. CJP is bigger than an individual or any organisation”.
Escalation on June 4: JEE Data Leak and Demand for Dismissal
At a second press conference held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, the party addressed reports that personal data of JEE (Advanced) 2026 candidates had been exposed online due to a cloud storage misconfiguration. The alleged breach reportedly affected nearly 200,000 students.
Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka criticised the government’s handling of digital infrastructure, saying, “Names, phone numbers, and images of nearly two lakh students got exposed. In a country that has produced techies leading top technology companies across the world, the education minister and the government are so incompetent that they are unable to run basic systems securely”.
The leadership also renewed its demand for action against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. While the party had earlier sought his resignation, it called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Thursday’s briefing to immediately sack the minister.
The CJP leadership strongly dismissed the Central Government’s recent transfer of the CBSE Chairperson and Secretary, labeling the administrative shuffling as a mere “eyewash” that fails to address structural flaws in public education.
Demands for Accountability over Exam Furore
Ahead of its proposed protest at Jantar Mantar on June 6, the group said the demonstration is centred on concerns over alleged irregularities in national examinations, including NEET, CBSE, and CUET.
The group also said that more than 800,000 people have signed its online petition seeking the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Movement founder Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old public relations postgraduate who has been coordinating the movement from Boston, USA, is scheduled to land at Delhi Airport at 8:00 AM on Saturday morning.
Ahead of his return to India on June 6, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has appealed to supporters not to gather at Delhi airport. The request marks a change from his earlier call for supporters to welcome him upon arrival.
In a message shared on social media, Dipke said the movement had received far greater support than expected and urged followers to avoid causing inconvenience to passengers or disrupting airport operations. He asked supporters to join the planned protest at Jantar Mantar instead.
Ahead of his arrival in India, Dipke said he expects possible action from authorities in connection with the planned protest. He also claimed that he had faced attempts at internet censorship and had received anonymous death threats on WhatsApp.
“I will most likely be arrested at the airport,” Dipke told PTI, adding that he was mentally prepared for detention and believed the movement was protected under constitutional guarantees of peaceful assembly.
Co-spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya expressed similar concerns, saying that Dipke could face arrest upon his return. Referring to the detention of Sonam Wangchuk during a previous protest, Dahiya said, “If Sonam Wangchuk could be arrested, Dipke could be arrested as well. If he’s arrested, more people will rally behind us”.
High-Profile Endorsements
Renowned climate activist and educator Sonam Wangchuk has officially pledged his solidarity and announced he will be joining the CJP members in Delhi on June 6 if structural concerns are not addressed.
Sonam Wangchuk formally declared his solidarity on social media platform, writing:
“READY FOR 6th JUNE Armed with nothing but PEACE & LOVE. Use of force if any, must not be from our side! Even if it means Jail”
Ahead of the June 6 protest, viral videos circulating on social media claimed that the demonstration could develop into a multi-day dharna with the involvement of various political groups.
During Thursday’s press conference, Ranka strongly moved to quell these apprehensions, stating: “Rumours are being spread about violence. The Cockroach Janata Party calls for peaceful and democratic protests in line with law and order. We urge people to shun violence”.
The CJP has maintained that they will proceed with their single-day, peaceful demonstration on June 6.
Organizers have issued final instructions to participants, emphasizing a strict mandate for non-violence and urging students to arrive without any political party banners.
With high-profile civilian figures confirming their presence and over one million registered members on their website, the event is set to be the first major physical test of whether the group’s massive online following will translate into real-world political momentum.
