Daman is set to enter India’s growing aviation network with the launch of its new civil airport in June 2026, bringing direct commercial flight connectivity to Delhi initially, with Mumbai and Ahmedabad routes expected in later phases. The project is expected to significantly improve tourism, trade and regional connectivity for the Union Territory.
The airport has been developed at an estimated cost of around ₹97 crore and is expected to be inaugurated in early June, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to attend the launch event, according to multiple reports.
Daman earlier operated mainly as a Coast Guard airstrip and did not have full-scale commercial civil aviation services.
Officials say the first commercial service is expected to operate on the Daman-Delhi route, while connectivity to Mumbai and Ahmedabad is also under consideration in the next phase. The project is aimed at reducing Daman’s dependence on road travel and nearby airports in Surat and Mumbai.
The airport is expected to become a major boost for tourism in the coastal region, which attracts visitors from Gujarat, Maharashtra and other parts of western India. Improved air connectivity is also expected to support local industries and business travel.
Reports say the airport terminal includes modern passenger facilities and infrastructure capable of handling Airbus A320-class aircraft.
The launch comes at a time when India is rapidly expanding its aviation infrastructure through new and upgraded regional airports. The launch aligns with India’s broader push to expand regional air connectivity and improve access to smaller cities and tourist destinations.
While the routes to Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad have been announced, airlines operating these services and final flight schedules have not yet been officially confirmed. Flight schedules and ticket booking details are yet to be officially announced.
